Starting point

An existing GFRP cover flap needed to become significantly lighter — without compromising stiffness, mounting or surface, and at competitive cost.

Requirements in detail

Maintain stiffness and deflection at least at the level of the GFRP part
Fastening points must take comparable pull-out forces
Defined visible surface with no rework on the finished part

Our approach

Designed as an NFRP part with an adapted layup and targeted reinforcements at the mounting points; manufactured with NFK Wetpreg Molding for reproducible quality.

Why natural-fibre composite works here

Natural fibre has a density of around 1.3 g/cm³, markedly below glass fibre at about 1.9 g/cm³. On a large-area flap that primarily has to deliver surface and stiffness rather than being designed at its strength limit, this density advantage translates directly into part weight — without any loss of function.
