Why natural fibre fits here

In caravan construction every kilogram goes straight into payload

Hardly any sector feels part weight as directly as caravan and motorhome construction. The permissible gross mass is capped by law, every kilogram in the body is missing from the payload — and equipment levels keep growing. Large-area parts such as pop-up roofs, roof shells and bulkheads are therefore the lever with the greatest effect.

On these parts, bending stiffness decides, not tensile strength. A sandwich build-up separates the two tasks: the light core holds the face layers apart and delivers the stiffness, while the natural-fibre face layers carry the loads. On top of that comes a property that is immediately noticeable in the living area and that glass fibre does not offer — the fibre structure absorbs vibration and noise differently.

How large is the weight saving on a pop-up roof?
On a realised large-area pop-up roof it was around 35 percent compared with the previous version — with improved acoustic behaviour and a visible surface with a natural-fibre look.
Is natural fibre suitable for visible interior surfaces?
Yes, and that is a design argument: the natural-fibre look can be used deliberately as a visible surface instead of being covered up. For furniture and interior parts this means lightweight design without sacrificing appearance.
How does the material behave with moisture?
Moisture resistance is set deliberately through the resin system, additives and layer build-up and designed for the application. On a roof part this design looks different from a furniture part in the interior.
Does the switch help acoustically?
The natural damping of the fibre structure is one reason natural fibre is interesting in the living area. In the properties table on the material page it is rated “high” against “medium” for glass fibre and “low” for aluminium.
